At one time, Embergreen was just another sleepy human village at the foot of the mountains. When a rich prospector saw the potential of the veins of iron and gold running through the mountains however, all of that changed. Requesting expertise from the dwarves of Bandell the prospector started investing huge amounts of time and money, bringing in tools, workers and equipment. Almost overnight, the village became a rapidly expanding market town, the bustling centre of the newly formed Embergreen mining company, home of miners, metal workers, traders, and their families, not to mention publicans, musicians, and a very necessary city watch to keep the peace. Wagons of ore rumbled up and down the roads, smelting furnaces were fired day and night, and smiths and traders flocked to the once tiny village to buy raw materials. All seemed set for Embergreen to become a centre for mining fit to rival even the busiest delvings of the dwarves. Then, ten years ago everything changed once again. Mines collapsed, furnaces grew silent, and the town fell to rack and ruin almost more quickly than it had prospered. These days, Embergreen is nothing but a set of dilapidated houses, crumbling ruins populated by drunks, beggars and thugs, those too broken, or too greedy to leave, still desperately grubbing for gold amidst the rubble, and most visitors are well advised to give it a wide berth.
