Farming Guide

The farming skill can be acquired in Wayside Farm. All farming‑related activities can be performed without the skill. However, having the skill reduces the time it takes to milk cows and shear sheep. Once mastered, it also allows you to collect an extra egg from chickens and an extra ball of wool when shearing sheep. The farming skill improves by performing farming activities such as milking cows, collecting eggs, and similar tasks. Players can add livestock to their homes, including chickens, cows, and sheep using the home command, and changing the sector of the room to pasture. Chickens forage for insects in the pasture. While they are full, you can collect eggs from them. However, collecting eggs reduces their fullness, and once they have eaten all available food, they must wait for more insects to appear before they can produce again. Cows naturally produce dung overtime, up to a maximum of 10 piles per room, as long as they are not starving. Milking requires a pail and reduces the cow's fullness‑starving cows cannot be milked. Sheep can be shorn for their wool. All livestock have mood levels, which must be manually improved through interactions like hugging, cuddling, snuggling, and nuzzling. Happier animals are more likely to reward their caretakers with special items when resources like eggs, milk, or wool are collected. However, offering these gifts depletes their mood points, and if an animal's mood is too low, it may refuse to provide resources until its mood is restored. Pastures contain limited resources, such as grass and insects, which livestock consume and which naturally regenerate over time. You can enrich a pasture with a mixture of 5 piles of ash and 5 piles of dung with the command 'fertilize pasture'. Each application lasts about 10 hours, doubling grass growth and encouraging insect life. Fertilizer can be applied multiple times, enough for roughly a week, after which the soil will no longer accept more.
