Subject: Cooking/Alchemy, Straw, Light Command
Posted by Aelyn  —  Tue Aug 4 13:09:20 2026
* Mainly bugfixes came in with this last copyover, but I have a few updates: * Due to conflicting alchemical and cooking ingredient names, alchemical ingredient sprig of thyme has been renamed to pile of bat guano. Bulb of garlic has been renamed to bitter root. * Weapon damage runes now show up when you lore items instead of just appearing next to the bonus line on weapons. * New item type: straw. Used for crafting stove ovens, you can find it while foraging for crafting materials. * The light command has been updated to make it easier to keep a fire going. If you have already lit your fire pit, stone oven, or furnace, using the light command again will feed it with fuel and tell you the time left before it burns out.
Subject: Foraging, Crafting, Cooking, Player Homes
Posted by Aelyn  —  Fri Jul 31 13:39:23 2026
* A furnace is a new craftable structure built in your player home, and a crucible is a separate craftable, portable vessel you bolt next to it. They are now used for smelting metal and melting gems in place of the fire pit and cauldron. Use the make command as usual, and it automatically catches the furnace alight using a block of wood to kindle it and a chunk of coal to sustain the heat, since coal alone won't catch from a bare match and wood alone never burns hot enough for smelting. Once lit, the furnace slowly consumes its fuel over time, leaving behind ash from the spent wood and clinker from the spent coal. You can keep it burning longer by simply putting more coal in while it's still lit, extending its burning life for as long as you keep feeding it. If it does burn out mid‑process, any smelting or lapidary work in progress stops until it's relit. * So you guys don't have to remove items from your player home to make room for the new item types, the following items no longer count towards the maximum objects in a player home: furnace, crucible, firepit, crock, potter's wheel, cauldron, kiln, spinning wheel, stone oven. You can have a maximum of one of those items in each player home, and up to two cauldrons and two fire pits, in case you want to have a separate room for cooking and one room for crafting (since both activities require fire pits and cauldrons). * To avoid confusion with the forage command, I've renamed "forage ingredients" to "forage alchemy" and added "forage cooking". Forage area has been renamed to forage crafting. * Goats in the wild can now be milked just like cows. You can also add goats to your player home just like cows and they have moods. * New room sector: kitchen. Sounds added: kitchen ambience, song for an upcoming cooking area! * New item type: honey. This will be created when you strain honeycomb and will be used in cooking recipes.
Subject: Quests and Copyovers, MudVault Voting
Posted by Aelyn  —  Fri Jul 24 07:20:36 2026
* I've added a new bonus tied to MudVault voting: every 10th vote cast for the mud triggers a server‑wide 15‑minute +100% experience boost for everyone playing, and if another 10 votes roll in while a boost is still running, it simply adds another 15 minutes rather than starting over. Every single vote will now be announced on the mudevent channel (no names, just a "we got another vote!" And how many more are needed until the next bonus), so you can watch the countdown to the next boost in real time. You can also check gamestats at any time to see how many votes MudVault has recorded for us in the last 24 hours. * All forms of quests now persist through copyovers! The copyover block will no longer block requesting any type of quest. (Quest, expedition, junkyard, errand, global quest, global junkyard.) I went ahead and made crafting also persist through copyovers instead of cancelling it, so you won't lose your progress or materials and will not be blocked by the copyover being initiated.
Subject: New Monday Event: Demon Invasion
Posted by Aelyn  —  Wed Jul 22 17:48:49 2026
Erion has a new recurring Monday event: Demon Invasion, created based on the idea proposed by Thile! When it runs, portals tear open across five highways throughout Erion, and it'll take violent and pacifist players working together to push the invaders back. Each portal is guarded by a rock golem, and adventurers must build a catapult a safe distance away and bombard it with large rocks until it falls, releasing a wave of demons into the highway through the portal. Those demons have to be cleared before the next phase can begin: three siege towers built directly at the portal, which the army of light carries off one by one until enough have been claimed to seal the portal for good. But the fight isn't only for fighters: as the demons pour through, they scatter hidden caches of supplies across the highway. Pacifists who can't take up arms can still contribute by searching them out (look around to spot one) and burning them to ash with wood and a match, denying the invaders their use. And here's the catch: demon scouts patrol every invaded highway, and while they won't engage anyone in combat directly, they will sabotage anyone caught crafting a catapult, setting their work back a step or ruining it outright (crafting materials are returned to the crafter). Someone has to keep those scouts off the crafters' backs, which means this event can't be soloed, it takes fighters clearing demon scouts, crafters building catapults and siege towers, and pacifists hunting down supply caches, all working the same highway at the same time. Rewards: quest points and gold for every cache burned, training sessions for every siege tower raised, practice points for every launch of a catapult, a crystal fragment for every portal sealed, and every participant walks away from the event with a randomized rune and a randomized potion for their part in the war effort. Added 6 new sounds for this event. I hope you enjoy this one!
Subject: Painting, Artisans, House Rank, Dung
Posted by Aelyn  —  Wed Jul 22 17:24:57 2026
* New skills: painting/advanced painting. The painting skill increases the chance of producing an extra pool of paint, and the chance is guaranteed once the skill has been mastered. Advanced painting also works identically. Once mastered it will boost the number of paints produced. Mixing paints and crafting steps that involve painting improve these skills. A Study in Art grants the painting skill and Patronizing an Artist grants advanced painting. (Thile) * New command: house rank. Shows your rank and total house points earned. (Miriam) * The whirlwind spell damage has changed from sound to air. (Elunariel) * Artisans now gain a little boost of +2 house points per feather or blenyx found while mining/foraging. (Maerius) * New command: shovel. You can now shovel dung off of the ground and it will go directly into your crafting inventory. (Miriam) * The craft state command will now tell you the number of steps left and time left of your currently doing a step. * Added command 'MudVault time' to tell you how much time you have left until you can vote again.
Subject: Voting for Erion on MudVault
Posted by Aelyn  —  Mon Jul 20 08:14:50 2026
I created a listing for Erion mud on the MudVault website and enabled rewards for voting. If you're unfamiliar with this website, MudVault is a place where people can discover Erion listed alongside other active MUDs, and it also offers MudForge, a free modern client. This is how voting for rewards works: 1. Link your character ‑ visit mudvault.org/profile, log in, link your character to Erion MUD under the rewards tab (character names are case sensitive), and get a verification code. Then in‑game, type: mudvault verify <code>. 2. Vote ‑ head to Erion's page on mudvault.org and cast your vote. 3. Get your reward ‑ rewards are delivered automatically within a few minutes of voting. You can also type 'mudvault rewards' in‑game to check right away. Each character on your account can be linked separately, so feel free to verify more than one. I think if you have more than one, it picks a random one to send the rewards to. You can only vote once every 24 hours. You can favorite Erion on MudVault and easily access Erion's page by clicking favorites in the menu. By enabling 'reminder vote' you will get reminders when it's time to vote again. The current rewards are: 10000 experience, a wearable/redeemable "I Voted" pin, +1 mudpie for every 10 votes, 5000 gold. MudVault also has the option to write reviews ‑ currently we don't have any!

Subject: Mixing Paints, Battle Spam, Achievements, etc.
Posted by Aelyn  —  Wed Jul 8 17:55:30 2026
* Mixing the primary colors now uses the same syntax as the other colors, like: mix red paint. (Lottie) * Added new battle spam option: debuff. When this is enabled, it shortens debuff messages. For example, (Blinded) You. I was torn on what to do with the plague spell. If you want me to change it so that it shows (Plague) just let me know, or I can leave it as is. If I missed any just let me know! (Adrian) * I went through and changed the hidden achievements to be secret achievements instead, so "achievement missing" is less confusing. So now all achievements are visible. (Kaiya) * Enabling 'reminder friendrequest' will now send you a reminder when you log in and every 30 minutes while you are online if any players who have sent you a friend request are currently online. I did make it so if you are idle for more than 5 minutes, it stops sending the reminders so you don't come back to spam. If the ten minute reminder ends up being disliked and you guys feel like the login reminder is enough just let me know. (Sireyeh) * I made a small update to the inventory command so it's a bit less verbose when it lists the number of items in other storage types.
Subject: New Mission in Monster Park
Posted by Aelyn  —  Mon Jul 6 17:57:13 2026
One of the inhabitants of Monster Park never wanted to leave, even as the park fell into ruin around her, but now with the fountain dried up and no explanation as to why in sight, she is running out of reasons to stay. A gruff dwarf fisherman at the nearby pond is having troubles of his own. Something has fouled the water, driven off the fish, and left the pond noticeably shallower than it used to be. Getting to the bottom of it will require a fishing line, a willingness to go places most people would rather not, and a fairly strong stomach. (Also fixed many anachronisms in this area.)
Subject: Inventory Search, Stained Glass
Posted by Aelyn  —  Mon Jul 6 17:41:30 2026
* New feature: 'inventory search slot' lets you search your carried items by wear slot, not just by keyword. For example, 'inventory search slot finger' will show every ring sitting in your inventory. (Thile) * Changed the syntax 'equipment slot' to require the word slot. Example: 'equipment head' is now 'equipment slot head'. Checking someone else's slot or a pet's slot works the same way, just with slot added in. * New craftable: stained glass window. The crafting process is loosely based on historical methods, though we used a heated knife to cut the glass rather than a dedicated glazing tool, to avoid adding another item players would need to carry around just for this one craft. Reconstruction pilgrimages may ask you to craft this item for holy temples.
Subject: new Velkara based mission for Holy grove
Posted by Darkbuilder  —  Sat Jun 27 05:24:56 2026
Velkara is a harsh goddess, since the requirements of justice are ever steep. Benthamus; Velkara's representative in holy grove, is looking for the help of an adventurer to aid in apprehending some truly reprehensible criminals, a gang of kidnappers who delivered unsuspecting victims to orc slavers. Bringing them to justice will not only require the uses of steel and spell in dealing with the orcs, but a keen eye and good judgement, since the gang are masters of disguise. Any adventurers of level 55 or above prepared to take on the challenge, speak to Benthamus, priest of Velkara in holy grove, and be sure to exercise that keen eye when examining the bandit's camp, since even when dealing with robbers, there are more rewards to be found than just moral ones. Thanks To aelyn for the coding magic necessary to bring this rogues' gallery to life.
Subject: Buff Command, Hallucination, etc.
Posted by Aelyn  —  Fri Jun 26 17:22:57 2026
* The hallucination spell will now reward experience even if the Illusionist is not in the same room at the same time as the death of the mob. Also fixed a bug where if the hallucination killed the mob on the first hit it wouldn't reward experience at all or credit the caster for the kill. * Updated the buff command so the 100ms delays are between targets instead of buffs. This should allow your buffs to complete much faster while not causing spikes. * Parsley's rage mission no longer requires you to hand everything in one by one. Now you just type 'mission complete'. I also updated the rewards for the missions that Neve gives and made them all repeatable. * Just for fun, I added a stone column to rest on at the Temple of Beginnings Waypoint and shortened the room description slightly by putting a couple of lines into an extra description about the sword. * Added clearer feedback for newer players trying to use the chat channel. It now tells them they're not high enough level yet instead of just saying you can't talk on this channel, since this came up as a recurring question.
Subject: Chicks, Daily Challenges, Friend Command, etc.
Posted by Aelyn  —  Tue Jun 23 13:23:01 2026
* Added a notification for when your chicks hatch and you are not in the same room. It will batch everything together instead of spamming you if multiple chicks hatch at different times in quick succession. (Anon) * Added new daily challenges for making cement, lye, glass, and mixing paint. (Thile, Kaiya) * Dying to a mob in Monster Colosseum in Survival Mode will now unlock a certain achievement if the mob is high enough level;) . (Kaeldrys) * Tree taps will get posted back to you after a week instead of a day. (Kaiya) * You can now get Keyqua's Favor again if you lose it and have already completed the exam. Say favor at Keyqua and she will hand it to you again. (Monkey) * You can now change the character that shows up before the (Online as) on the friends list with the command: friend swap <current name> <new name>. (Iridescence) * "Mine totals" and "forage totals" will now list the total number of times you have done these activities. (Kaeldrys) * Fixed a bug in 'garden check' where dead plants were incorrectly reported as struggling instead of dead. (Adien) * Fixed Spam BuffsCondensed, so buffs no longer show individually with this on when using the buff command.
Subject: Performance Updates, Colosseum
Posted by Aelyn  —  Mon Jun 22 10:41:39 2026
* For performance reasons, I rewrote the tear pin code that casts steel skin. It should work the same way as before, but please let me know if there are any issues! * The object Devil's Fuge was contributing to combat lag. Because it wasn't really that useful, I removed its fancy programs and added a few stats that should hopefully make it more appealing than it was. * The buff command now queues buffs and executes them overtime instead of all at once (another performance update). There may be some slight behavioral differences between the old buff command and the new one. If there are any issues just let me know! * Pets will now be transferred with you when you enter the colosseum.
Subject: Summer Solstice, New Prayer Bonus, Nokova Island
Posted by Aelyn  —  Fri Jun 19 14:04:48 2026
* You can now look at other players to see if you've recently drenched them, so you'll know whether it's worth drenching them again. The same feature has been added for the egging event. Thanks to Iridescence for the idea! * You can now type "fill all.balloon" to fill all balloons at once! (Ayla) * New house point prayer bonus for errands! (Kaiya) * The to the death setting for colosseum now works for every mode and can be toggled at any time, including after you have started fighting. * Deleted the Hillock Hills handbook and migrated the information that was in the handbook into the guide command. Thank you Aura for giving feedback on the newbie area! Went through and added more hints :).
Subject: Sound Pack Update
Posted by Aelyn  —  Thu Jun 18 15:06:04 2026
* 5 new kitty socials added each with a sound! Mewsweet, mewhello, mewyes, mewno, hiss. :D * Replaced the sound for inviting someone to a group/joining a group. Also replaced the sounds for waypoint appearing and vanishing. * Added three new sounds for the air social, the alarm from the alarm command going off, finding a Luminati tile, entering a room with a sick mob that healers must heal for an errand, being in a room when someone enters via portal or nexus. * Fixed the missing sound for giving an item.
Subject: To the Death, Beep, Energize
Posted by Aelyn  —  Wed Jun 17 16:41:29 2026
* If you beep someone who is link dead, it will now give you feedback telling you that they are linkdead. (Kaeldrys) * Energize and mana heal both now reward house points to Healers and Newbies. (Vraekar) * Fixed locate object spell ‑ it was crashing the game in some rare situations. * Added back the to the death option for the colosseum. Command: colosseum death.
Subject: Monster Colosseum Revamp
Posted by Aelyn  —  Tue Jun 16 17:22:19 2026
On my quest to improve the performance of the game, I've rewritten Monster Colosseum in C++, so it no longer relies on mob programs among other things. What's new: * You will now see +800 experience! instead of "You gain 800 experience." when you gain experience, to be more in line with other bonuses and less verbose. * You will no longer see global colosseum messages that are about yourself. * Objects that can only be purchased a limited number of times now show the limit directly under the object name in the shop list. The same applies to objects that have requirements. * All colosseum syntaxes are now part of a new command: colosseum. * colosseum exchange: exchange points from a higher difficulty mode into a lower one at the service center. * colosseum upgrade: upgrade colosseum armor at the service center using points. * colosseum reset: reset your cooldown timer for a mode using mudpies. * colosseum status: check your current mode, round, and cooldown timers. * colosseum currency: check your current point balances for each mode from anywhere in the world. This replaces the card object. * colosseum fight: replaces saying "I'm ready" to the moderator. * colosseum mode: replaces saying the mode name to Brutus. * Removed the pet stabling option. You can simply force your pets to sit to leave them behind. * If you type "flee confirm" in combat in the colosseum, it will be guaranteed to succeed on the first attempt. * Mission 230 will be disabled until the next copyover, because I forgot to update that. :P I tested thoroughly but it was a big update, so please let me know if there are any bugs. Enjoy!
Subject: catsnacks mission in tails town
Posted by Darkbuilder  —  Fri Jun 12 15:53:02 2026
Tails town has long existed as the e per‑fect place for Erion's feline population. Unfortunately, keeping it that way takes a lot of work and planning, which aren't exactly the feline's strong points. RAwowyn of the cat caf is running into supply problems, and given the appetites of cats you can guess those will be serious ones. Any adventurers keen on fishing, crafting and farming should seek her out and volunteer their assistance; indeed anyone knowing the appetite's of cats can probably guess what is required. Thanks again for the coding assistance from Aelyn on this one.
Subject: New haven lake mission, the frogmaid's lost children.
Posted by Darkbuilder  —  Fri Jun 12 15:47:59 2026
Frogmen have always been a strange, alien and insula people. With a language that's incomprehensible to outsiders, and little inclination or interest in the world beyond their marshes, they have existed for centuries. Indeed, some elvish scholars have postulated that they aren't even sentient, and the primitive buildings they engage in are no more a sign of civilization than the nests of birds. Yet, things such as grief, loss and a mother's love for her children are universal. A disaster has befallen one of the Frogmaid's of haven lake, and with the alien disinterest of her own people, she's willing to ask an outsider for help. Any adventurers of level 25 or higher should seek her out in haven lake, and peace follower's don't worry, since no slaying is involved. Thanks again to Erion for the coding wizardry necessary to add this new mission.
