Some scholars believe that just as a sea of boiling magma lies far beneath the earth's surface, so a sea of utter darkness lies beneath the surface of reality, a realm of demons, chaos and terror. Just as there are volcanos where magma erupts into the upper air, so there are places where the fabric of reality is stretched thin, and the demonic tides can enter this world, corrupting and changing all they touch. Everlasting Silence is such a place, a realm of eternal decay and rottenness, where the line between life and death has grown soft. Populated by hideous creatures of unlife, drenched in mists of an eternal silence, where the air is chill and the ground itself bleeds. Only the foolhardy or power hungry have dared enter, seeking pacts with those on the other side of the real, dark bargains made in the stinking mists. It is likely to prevent all who would seek such demonic favours that shadowy guardians, as insubstantial and silent as the mists themselves keep a watch on the boarders of Everlasting Silence, though what exactly these shadows are, or why they might be so interested in keeping people from this decayed place, nobody knows.
