Legend has it that nearly 800 years ago, Truel, the son of a wealthy gnome clan, wandered into the heart of the ancient forest with his wife Virginia, leaving their families behind. The most common version of the story is a highly romantic legend, with Truel fleeing his heartless family to marry the woman he loved, even though she was just a penniless maiden. Various other versions exist, some suggest they were both the only survivors of a goblin raid, fleeing into the forest together, while some suggest Virginia was part Fey, and it was Truel who pursued her into the wild, finally winning her hand. Whatever the truth of the matter, the two gnomes delved the first house, planted first a garden, then a farm, and were soon enough joined by other families who formed a small community. Adopting the faith of Tornadis after a visit from a wandering priest, the village slowly grew for years, tending their crops and their sheep, practicing practical magic and following the pattern of the seasons. Though not unknown to outsiders, other than the occasional wool merchant, wandering adventurer or fir trader, most people ignored Truel village, and for the most part, the gnomes ignored the outside world right back. The small force of local police; known as sheriffs was enough to deal with any local issues, and the the most dangerous external threat the village faced was only a fox after the chickens. All that changed 50 years ago, when an ingenious gnome started making modifications to his wife's spinning wheel, allowing them to spin cotton fibre into thread far more quickly. More modifications followed, and soon the gnomes of Truel village was regularly hiring dwarven builders to construct a massive cotton mill, where magic and machinery combined to produce large amounts of high quality cloth. This necessitated a full branch of the gnome merchant's guild in the village, with regular carts making deliveries, which of course meant expanding the village's two inns, and even building a larger windmill. Now the village is a strange combination of boom town, and peaceful forest dwelling. Though still boasting a local witch, sheep pastures and a thriving trade in very interesting forms of tobacco, the pace of life in Truel village is definitely growing faster. Likely industrious adventurers will find plenty of opportunities around the village, since there's certainly no shortage of work to be done, though given that the village is still located at the edge of an ancient forest, and populated by gnomes who are themselves magical people, it's likely there are also darker, stranger secrets to be found by those who search for them.
