Kyroko, an enormous and courteous priest of the phoenix, explains that
the great phoenixes of each season have taken to testing worthy warriors in
mortal combat before their time comes to be reborn, so that their next life
may rise stronger. It is no small honor to be asked, but Kyroko warns
plainly that the great ones do not hold back, any more than storms or
wildfires do. He directs any willing challenger to Mount Fulcrum, where all
seasons balance, to seek out each phoenix's nest when the weather turns
right and face them one by one in combat to the death. |
