The eternal battlefield of Kriega possesses one of the saddest reputations in all of Erion. 20 years ago, an orc Chieftain known as Kriega was able to unite a massive number of orc bands under her banner. Calling even ogres, trolls and powerful dragons to her service and making an alliance with the Drow of the Underdark, her forces swept across the planes of Erion, leaving burned forests, broken walls and shattered corpses in their wake, killing, enslaving or despoiling all before then. Only a full alliance of all other races was able to oppose them, with even fairies and tree folk taking up arms alongside Dwarves, elves and humans. Its said even some more noble dragons joined their course in an effort to keep their kin in check. The night before the two armies clashed however, a half elven mage known as Halavril, made a foolish mistake. Believing that orcs and goblins, created by the dark powers only as weapons of war and conquest, were doomed by their very nature, he made a bargain with those same dark powers,, to make all those who's nature was only that of cruelty to turn to kindness, to change the slavers and despoilers of the enemy army into protectors and healers. As is usual with such bargains though, there was a price, a more terrible price Halavril could not have imagined. All of the aggression, the lust for violence and the desire to conquer that left the opposing army, entered Halavril and the allied host. Elves of the forest became as savage and bitter as Drow, Humans gave in to their worst impulses, even fairies changed from gentle forest guardians, to creatures of pure hatred. Whether it is an ironic joke on the part of the dark ones who cast the spell, or simply the fact that since that time, most people have given Kriega a wide birth, the two armies have remained locked in a seemingly endless stalemate, eternally clashing over the blood soaked plane. The once allied army intent only upon exterminating their foes, and Kriega's host unwilling to allow such twisted creatures as those they fight ravage the rest of Erion. Sometimes adventurers and mercenaries journey to Kriega, and win renown among the bloody ranks of the seemingly eternal war. For most though, Kriega stands as a stark reminder of the danger of bargains taken in haste, and a lesson in the fact that if even an orc or an ogre is to stand against the malevolent nature of their race, such a change must come from within, not be imposed from without.
