There are more than a dozen tools used during steps of the crafting
process. Other than the steel bowl and stone mortar, you can put them into
the crafter's toolkit and they will still be used when needed without having
to be retrieved.
The bowl and mortar act as containers, the bowl for heating and mortar for
crushing, so they have to be kept out of the toolkit in order to fill and
empty them.
The hammer, steel bowl, knife, anvil, stone mortar, pestle, needle, saw,
scissors, shears, palette, paintbrush, chisel and rasp can be purchased from
the Crafters' Corner shop in Crafters Forge.
The screen and quill are purchasable from Bookbinder's Burrow in Crafters
Forge.
The loom and spinning wheel have to be crafted.
2. keyword crafting tools
Crafters Forge keeps a shared supply of tools ‑‑ hammers, anvils,
chisels, rasps, saws, and so on ‑‑ that anyone can use while crafting
a tool there.
Normally, crafting something that needs a tool means you must already
own that tool. That's a problem for the tools themselves: making your
first hammer would otherwise require a hammer, and making an anvil
would require both a hammer and an anvil.
While you're anywhere in Crafters Forge and crafting a tool, any tool
the recipe needs that you don't own is automatically borrowed from the
shared supply instead, for example:
You grab a spare hammer from the tool rack on the wall.
You step over to one of the spare anvils.
This only applies to crafting tools inside Crafters Forge. Anywhere
else, or when crafting something that isn't itself a tool, you still
need to carry or find the tools yourself.
With Craft Tips enabled ('toggle crafttips'), you'll be told when
going to Crafters Forge would let you finish a tool you're missing
something for.
