Custom spells are defensive and adverse spells created by the game's
builders and added to potions, pills, scrolls, wands, and staves, or cast
via other means. If a spell is custom, it will be displayed as such on the
lore and appraise commands, and sometimes more detailed information about
the spell will be listed, such as what it affects and by how much (for
example a resistance to cold by 5% or a ‑3 modifier to the wisdom stat). If
this information isn't provided, you just have to take a risk and use the
item to see what effects it has.
